i have been rereading fha with friends
ok enough tomfoolery of the posting variety
i’m saving the rest of my clowning for the streaming variety this week, starting tonight with pokemonday! i’m thinking i should focus more on that, though i have no idea how close to the end i am…
important: sunscreen
one minor thing that bugs me are those posts that go around saying stuff like “stem people need the humanities because etc etc” because the inverse is also true… how many bigots falsely weaponize the language of biology to further their political agenda? people deliberately misinterpreting statistics to spread unnecessary fear? these disciplines need each other, and need to join forces against their common enemy, business majors.
Doomed yuri rarepair
i don’t know if tumblr has seen this yet but this is honest to god my favorite video
people in the notes of corgi’s post being like ‘i dont think you HAVE to read the vn to have an opinion on saber-’ you do. you have to read the visual novel.
if “you have to read the saber route before you can actually have an informed opinion on saber” is gatekeeping then prepare to answer my riddles three
the first riddle is “what will your opinion on saber be after you actually read saber route”
i didn’t even say people CAN’T have an opinion on saber without reading fate/stay night. i said they have to be fine with people thinking their opinion isn’t worth much, like how you wouldn’t expect a fan of a book to care what you think if you’ve only seen the movie adaptation because you don’t like reading, and people are treating it like their personal 9/11
at the end of the day i don’t think anyone needs to read visual novels if they don’t like them because the medium isn’t for everyone, but as with any medium or genre or series, if you’re not a fan or haven’t even really tried getting into them you have to be fine with your opinions having no weight in conversations about them. that’s not anyone gatekeeping, it’s recognizing when you just don’t care enough about something be knowledgeable about it. no serious type-moon fan is going to think your opinion about saber means anything if you haven’t read fate/stay night. avid fantasy readers will dismiss you saying it’s a dumb YA or kiddie genre instantly if you only read harry potter when you were 12 or something. horror buffs aren’t going to take you seriously if you say you like horror movies but only if they’re silly and fun. and no, american indie visual novel writer, you are not impressing your target audience by trying to subvert tropes you’ve heard exist specifically in dating sims, which you believe are dumb shallow high school romances for straight girls or pornography addicts
traumatized by watch order debates i wish i could go back to the Before Days when telling people to read a visual novel was actually reasonable advice and wouldn’t get 5 people on my ass saying ‘you can’t tell people to read books the average person hates words’
It’s easy:
“How do I get into fate?”
“Read Fate/Stay Night.”
“What if I don’t want to read a visual novel?”
“Suffer and die.”
The End.
